Davines’ environmental standards are setting the bar to become a step-by-step example for other beauty brands—and global companies—to follow. Learn more about their B Corporation designation.
Davines Group was born with the aim of being a business with a positive impact both on people and the environment. Through the years, we have carried out this goal with different projects, such as our Ethical Chart and our Sustainability Report. Now, we are part of a global network that uses business as a force for good.
Today, we are proud to announce our commitment with an international certification! At the end of November 2016, Davines Group and its 2 brands – Davines and Comfort Zone – became a B Corporation®, a new type of company that meets the highest standards of overall social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. Thus, we have become part of a group of almost 2000 Certified B Corporations® from more than 130 industries and 50 countries with 1 unifying goal – to redefine success in business. B Corp® is a certification, like fair trade, but for the whole company.
To become certified, we had to meet the requirements of the nonprofit B Lab®, which measured “what matters”, meaning the performance of the company regarding five fields: workers, governance, community, customers, and environment.
Our evaluation was excellent in several areas, which are:
• The analysis of the product lifecycle (SLCA) based on their environmental and social impact.
• The reduction of materials for the packaging of our products, through a lower environmental impact choice and a more responsible product design.
• The reduction of our waste, and an increase in the percentage allocated to recycling.
• The involvement of all suppliers in the certification path.
• The attention to the welfare of the company staff.
Some important data: Davines Group firmly believes in gender equality, with 48% of managerial roles filled by women. We recycled or recuperated 31% of our total waste, and we use 100% electricity from renewable sources (annual results 2015 at head office, Sustainability Report).
In our assessment, we earned a review of 99 points, on a scoring scale of minimum 80 out of a maximum of 200. Our result shows high standards of efficiency and transparency.
As Bart Houlahan, co-founder of B Lab® asserted: “99 points is above average in the entire community of certified B Corporations, [...]and for the size of the company that Davines is, that is a remarkable score, you should be really proud of that.”
Nevertheless, we consider this an improvable result, setting the bar to become better with time and the ambition to become step-by-step an example to follow and the best company for the world!
